How the building was named
Bishop E.H. Burgmann (1885–1967) was Anglican Bishop of Goulburn from 1934 and Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn from 1950 to 1960. During the 1930s he frequently stated that a national university should be established in Canberra so that it would be a capital in which "Australia not only governs but thinks". He moved a resolution to this effect at the General Synod of the Church of England 1937.
