How the building was named
Professor A.D. Hope was one of Australia's foremost poets. He was Professor of English at Canberra University College from 1951 to 1960 and Professor of English in the School of General Studies at the University from 1961 to 1968. He was the first Dean of the Faculty of Arts and in 1972 was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Letters by the University.
